Lincoln Center to present Ainadamar

Following it's sold-out run at the Santa Fe opera, Lincoln Center will present Peter Sellars' production of Ainadamar in January 2006. The three performances of Osvaldo Golijov's first opera will be a part of "The Passion of Osvaldo Golijov", a festival of the composer's works being presented by Great Performers at Lincoln Center.

The opera, which premiered at Tanglewood in 2003 and has also been performed at the Los Angeles Philharmonic, appeared at the Santa Fe Opera in a new production directed by Peter Sellars. The first Spanish-language opera at Santa Fe in 30 years, the new production met with popular and critical acclaim, called "a stunning new opera" by the Cincinnati Enquirer. Of the music, the Los Angeles Times wrote: "Golijov's score is amazing, in its opening distant trumpet calls, its insinuating dance rhythms, its vital command of percussion and its arrestingly beautiful arias for women's voice."

The three leads from Santa Fe will reprise their roles in New York. Dawn Upshaw (Margarita Xirgu), Kelley O'Connor (Lorca), and Jessica Rivera (Nuria), will again be joined by Miguel Harth-Bedoya, conductor.

A semi-staged version of Ainadamar will be presented by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in November 2005, under the baton of Robert Spano.
