The film is lovely to look at...and it is exceptionally lovely to listen to-not the screenplay, but the music, by Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov,. New to me but I hope not a one-trick pony in the movies, Golijov makes many of the problematic scenes bearable, more than that: memorable and moving. Not a music critic, I don't know how to describe the syncretic quality of his score, which so transcends any other aspect of the film but Blanchett's and Turturro's work that you won't be surprised if an Oscar nod comes Golijov's way.
