Tetro

Tetro

2009 – Featuring Claudio Ragazzi, Michael Ward-Bergeman, Octavio Brunetti, Bernardo Monk, Guillermo Vadala, Dawn Upshaw, Schola Cantorum de Caracas (Maria Guinand, Conductor). Orchestra conducted by Dante Anzolini.

An eclectic blend of symphonic jazz, classical and Argentine music, the soundtrack to Coppola's experimental film is mildly addictive. It unfolds like a concept album with its recurring theme pressing on but with shifts in tone that keep it from becoming repetitive. Like the film itself, it's a mood piece. And while not as daring as Stewart Copeland's SDTK for Coppola's film of S.E. Hinton's Rumble Fish, Tetro does take the listener to visceral heights in a similar way. Osvaldo Golijov was an inspired choice and is responsible for half the film's success. A filmmaker reborn and a musician to light the way with sound.
